Functional Testing
We use state of the art functional medicine testing to get to the root cause of nutritional and physiological imbalance
Here are just some of the tests available to you at Philadelphia Functional Nutrition:
Micronutrient Testing
This robust specialized blood test looks at 33 intracellular (within your cells) nutritional components such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants. It also assesses your overall immune and antioxidant health at a cellular level. It is easy to read and actionable, and takes the guess work out of nutrient needs.
Comprehensive Stool Analysis
A must for anyone with GI issues, the CSA requires only one collection and gives us a look into the makeup of your personal microbiome, overgrown or pathogenic bacteria, worms, parasites, potential autoimmune triggers, gluten sensitivity, digestion, inflammation, and GI immune health. This is not your GI doc’s stool study (and if it is your GI doc’s stool study, please let me know who they are because I want to meet them!)
Functional Genomic Testing
Much more powerful than the data you receive from 23andMe (over 10,000 SNPs!) and without the security issues. This practitioner-only genetic test and platform give a wealth of information for us to use in guiding your health choices that you can go back to again and again. Especially useful if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, complex collections of symptoms, MCAS or other intolerances, and highly recommended for fertility.
Salivary Hormones
The most accurate and detailed look into the intricacies of your hormones, salivary hormone collection ranges from one-time and one-day collection to mapping an entire menstrual cycle. Especially important for anyone looking to address fertility or hormonal issues such as amennorhea, irregular cycles, PCOS and endometriosis, estrogen dominance, etc.
Cortisol Mapping
Especially for fatigue, adrenal overload, chronic fatigue or even just consistent afternoon slumps. Looking at your Cortisol Awakening Response, adrenal function and your cortisol levels throughout the day can help us unlock the perfect nutrition and supplement plan to address YOUR specific issues.
Organic Acids Testing
A simple urine collection gives us over 70 different values to assess vitamin and mineral levels, antioxidants, yeast and fungal overgrowth, neurotransmitters, detoxification, oxalates and more. Also helpful for genomic analysis relating to current health.
Complete Thyroid panel including Antibodies and Adrenal function
Do you know (or suspect) you have a thyroid imbalance but your TSH is “normal”? This test takes a deep dive into thyroid function to see how this important gland is really functioning, and what we can do to support it. Includes not only T3, T4, TSH but also Reverse T3, DHEA-S, thyroid antibodies, and often cortisol.
Cardiometabolic panel and Pre-diabetes comprehensive panel
If you have high cholesterol, are prediabetic, insulin resistant, have trouble losing weight or just skew inflamed, these are your tests. Includes a comprehensive lipid panel, insulin, glucose, hemoglobin A1C, C-Reactive Protei (CRP), Homocysteine, etc. See a full list of what’s included here
Standard bloodwork (CBC, CMP with differential, serum vitamins, etc.)
There is much that can be gleaned regarding exercise, hydration, nutrient needs and inflammation from your standard bloodwork you get from your doctor. Recent labs can be assessed for your appointment or recommended based on your needs.
